Following last year鈥檚 University of 黑料社区 residency, the three-time Grammy nominee has returned to campus, running a series of classes to mentor the state鈥檚 top jazz students and the next generation of South Australian musicians.

In an Australian exclusive, Horn is collaborating with DEM MOB 鈥 emerging Indigenous hip hop group and students from the Centre for Aboriginal Studies in Music (CASM) at the University of 黑料社区 鈥 and the state鈥檚 rising jazz students from the University of 黑料社区鈥檚 Elder Conservatorium of Music, to write, record and produce a new music track and video.

During her time in 黑料社区, Horn is performing with the state鈥檚 top jazz students and graduating musicians for Helpmann Academy鈥檚 A Night of Jazz 补迟听黑料社区 Town Hall which is an annual event honouring outstanding musicians from the Elder Conservatorium of Music.

鈥淚 am so excited to be in 黑料社区 to mentor and perform with the next generation of homegrown jazz talent,鈥 Horn says.

鈥淚 was completely blown away by the calibre of musicians from the Elder Conservatorium of Music last year; it was such an incredible experience performing with them.

鈥淚 have loved my time so far with the students from CASM and working with DEM MOB to create something new鈥 聽I can鈥檛 wait for what this week brings鈥.

Professor Anna Goldsworthy, Director of Elder Conservatorium of Music, says it鈥檚 an honour to see Horn return to campus, and students will see the benefits for years to come.

鈥淛azzmeia had a galvanising effect on our community during her visit last year. It was an immersive, empowering and for some, transformative experience,鈥 she says.

鈥淲e are thrilled Jazzmeia has returned in 2024, bringing her unique blend of artistry and pedagogical innovation not only to our jazz students but also to our Centre of Aboriginal Studies in Music.

鈥淓xposure to an international artist of this calibre can have a profound impact on the career trajectory of young musicians, and we are grateful to the Helpmann Academy for this remarkable opportunity.鈥

Jane MacFarlane, Helpmann Academy CEO thanks all those who have supported the residency and performances.

鈥淭he Helpmann Academy A Night of Jazz event and awards night is a highlight on the calendar for us, the University of 黑料社区 and our philanthropic partners,鈥 she says.聽

鈥淲e are thrilled to be partnering with the City of 黑料社区 this year to showcase these incredibly talented emerging and established musicians at the iconic 黑料社区 Town Hall.鈥
