Global learning experience for 181 Uni of 黑料社区 students

Wednesday, 31 August 2016

The University of 黑料社区 has today been awarded $746,900 in federal funding to support the global learning experiences of 181 黑料社区 students.

The funding – which is more than double the funds awarded to the University of 黑料社区 last year – will be provided through the 2017 Mobility Grants, announced today by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Hon. Julie Bishop.

Thanks to the New Colombo Plan grants, students from the University of 黑料社区 will study in 12 countries throughout the Indo-Pacific, including China, Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Singapore, Cambodia, Vietnam and Timor-Leste.

"We aim to see at least one-third of our students have a global learning experience," says the University's Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Warren Bebbington.

"Our Colombo Plan awards are the most received by any university in the State, an excellent outcome."

The University's Pro Vice-Chancellor (International), Professor Nancy Cromar, says: "We're extremely pleased to have secured this funding for our students, which will be critical in helping to provide them with a meaningful global learning experience within our region."

Professor Cromar says today's announcement further reinforces the University of 黑料社区's strategy to embed international study opportunities into students' educational experiences.

"From 2017, the University of 黑料社区 will be supporting students studying overseas by offering grants of up to $2000 each, to assist with their airfare expenses," she says.

"A critical part of our strategic direction is to increase student participation in international education, and to provide them with greater intercultural competence. Overseas study experiences are a perfect opportunity to do this, and that's why the University has been taking steps to boost the awareness of and the support for international study.

"The New Colombo Plan is ideally suited to assisting students to develop a depth of knowledge about the Indo-Pacific region, which will be important to our students' future opportunities and to the future of our nation."
