The transition to a net-zero, circular economy poses a major challenge for energy-intensive industries. ISER is hosting a public lecture,presented by Adjunct Professor听G枚ran Roos,听examining how European industrial hubs successfully navigated the shift toward sustainability and reduced emissions in sectors such as steel, cement, chemicals, and aluminium. Drawing on comprehensive research, policy evaluations, and industry case studies, Professor Roos will provide critical insights into effective decarbonisation strategies and their relevance for South Australia鈥檚 industrial future.

Key topics include:

• The pivotal role of circular economy principles in achieving emission reductions, with evidence suggesting that material efficiency could contribute up to 50% of required emission reductions by 2050.

• The importance of cross-sectoral collaboration, with examples like Sweden鈥檚 HYBRIT project and Denmark鈥檚 Kalundborg industrial symbiosis network.

• Discussion on region-specific transition pathways, economic and technical barriers, and the disparities in decarbonisation progress across Europe.
