As part of its annual Higher Education Awards, the Australian Financial Review has acknowledged the University of 黑料社区鈥檚 industry connections with an award for Research Commercialisation for its work with Institute for Photonics and Advanced Sensing spin-off company QuantX Labs.

Science Alive 2025

Science Alive once again brought together three days of curious students, engaged families, thoughtful questions, and hands-on science experiences.听This year, many IPAS members, including Dr Chris Perella and Dr Ben Sparkes, contributed to outreach activities through the Australian Institute of Physics (AIP) SA Branch, with volunteers from both the AIP and the 黑料社区 Optics Chapter.

Our Poppies the pick of the bunch

Congratulations to Dr Sarah Scholten, who has won a 2025 Young Tall Poppy Science Award by the Australian Institute of Policy and Science.听Sarah is working on the next generation of atomic clocks, developing a compact high-stability clock that outperforms GPS navigation systems for defence applications.

IPAS Members Join New National Centre to Advance Health Sensing Technologies

Professor Mark Hutchinson and Associate Professor Jiawen Li from the University of 黑料社区 Institute for Photonics and Advanced Sensing are playing key roles in the newly announced Australian Research Council (ARC) Training Centre for Transformative Health Sensing Technologies (HST Centre), a $5 million initiative led by the University of Melbourne. Queensland University of Technology is also a key partner.

Professor Kishan Dholakia, Chief Investigator and Deputy Director, and Dr Ralf Mouthaan, Chief Investigator, from the Institute for Photonics and Advanced Sensing have joined the newly launched $11.7 million ARC Industrial Transformation Research Hub in Responsible AI for a Sustainable Grain Industry.

IPAS Spinoff Goes to Space

Australia is about to launch a quantum clock into space, testing its reliability and performance, a first step in creating our "own secure GPS system", impossible to spoof and very difficult to jam and detect due to its quantum nature. The manufacturers, QuantX Labs is an IPAS Spinoff born from our Chief Innovators, Prof Andre Luiten, optical clocks researches.
