Talk outline:

AI for Paediatric Fracture Detection on Imaging
This talk explores the development and evaluation of artificial intelligence for detecting fractures in children on X-rays鈥攐ne of the most common but misdiagnosed emergency care conditions. Dr. Shelmerdine will review current evidence from commercial AI tools, discuss findings from a large multi-reader study, and share perspectives from children and families on trust, consent, and AI in healthcare. The session will also touch on early work around cost-effectiveness and value for the NHS, asking the central question: can AI genuinely improve outcomes in paediatric fracture care while delivering value to health systems?
