Lamarr introduced the technology that would serve as the foundation of modern-day WiFi, GPS, and Bluetooth communication systems. Her invention of "frequency hopping", developed with composer George Antheil during WWII, aimed to prevent enemy interception of military transmissions. Though overlooked in her lifetime, its estimated worth today exceeds $30 billion.

For her contributions, Lamarr was awarded the Pioneer Award by the Electronic Frontier Foundation and the Bulbie Gnass Spirit of Achievement Award—recognising her brilliance beyond the silver screen.
