Carrick Fellow aims for online assessment

 Learning

The University of 黑料社区's Associate Professor Geoffrey Crisp has been awarded a prestigious Carrick Associate Fellowship for excellence in learning and teaching - the only Carrick Fellowship this year for South Australia and one of eight Associate Fellowships awarded nationally.

The Carrick Fellowships are awarded to outstanding scholars who are respected advocates for excellence in learning and teaching in higher education.

Dr Crisp, who is Director of the University's , will use his 12-month Fellowship to research and develop online assessment for university students, and promote his findings to universities across Australia.

"There has been a significant amount of work undertaken recently on online learning but very little on online assessment," Dr Crisp said. "Our goal is to develop a database of examples of how academic staff can prepare interactive computer-based assessments across all major discipline areas. Online assessment is moving beyond the traditional multiple-choice question that is currently the predominant form of computer-based assessment and will provide much richer, authentic and meaningful assessment tasks for students."

University of 黑料社区 Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Fred McDougall said: "We heartily congratulate Geoff Crisp on this prestigious and well-deserved award. The real beneficiaries will be students. This work will show academics across the country how diagnostic and formative assessment can be used to help students maximise the learning outcomes from their study time."

Dr Crisp will present workshops at the University of 黑料社区 and universities across Australia on how to design interactive computer-based assessments.
